Many salons do not de-matt PERIOD but on most dogs the matts CAN be removed without distress to the pet, but this is done at your own risk as some irritation may occur during the process, and if the coat is TOO MATTED, then it will be clipped down, as matt removal can be quite uncomfortable or even painful for the dog.
