For an eye-opening and tasty fried chicken experience, Vancouverites hit Juke Fried Chicken on Keefer Street. Heaping plates of battered-and-fried chicken are paired with delightfully non-traditional sides in this hip Chinatown dining room, making it the ideal spot to hang out while enjoying finger-licking food.
"I had the idea to open a fried chicken shop years ago, when my wife and I were travelling," says Justin Tisdall, one of Juke's three owners/operator. The team also includes former Hawksworth Restaurant sous chef Bryan Satterford and Meat & Bread co-owner Cord Jarvie. After hatching plans to open a restaurant together, talented friends Bryan and Justin joined with Cord to open Juke in 2016.
"We're a small, lively room" says Justin, who previously managed Vancouver's Belgian fine-dining restaurant Chambar. "It's a place to gather, eat, drink and enjoy yourself," he continues with a smile, touching on Juke's best quality: good old fashioned fun.
Fried chicken goes gourmet at Chinatown’s newly opened Juke. The 38-seat restaurant serves up a cool vibe and Southern-style comfort food that’s ideal for sharing. The finger-licking good five-piece fried chicken platters and home-style sides like charred corn, mac-and-cheese and crispy pork slaw are a cheat-day dream (hey, at least the crunchy coating on the chicken is gluten free). For those who prefer barbecue, a full slab of falling-off-the-bone sticky pork ribs or the skirt steak will satisfy those red meat cravings. In keeping with the down-South theme, drinks range from bourbon-based cocktails to a booze-free not-so-sweet tea.
