    Fantastic job!

Gilbert Lachapelle did a fantastic job on our oak kitchen table top. We wanted our oak table top finished before Christmas, 2010 and contacted Gilbert Lachapelle in early December for an estimate. The table is a pedestal base and is 42" x 81" inches, which is including the 2 leaves in it. We only wanted the top re-finished as it was rather badly scratched and stained and we needed the new stain colour to match the existing stain on the base. Gilbert knew that we wanted it done before Chritmas and he refinished the table-top within 5 days for a very reasonable price and he did an outstanding job. The stain coulour is great; it's a great match and we actually like the top better than the base now. The lacquer finish is super-smooth; I'm surprised at how smooth and perfect it looks. It's kind of a satin finsh and looks great. I think the original finish was a higher-gloss but we like the way it looks now better than the original finish. We'd definitely use him again. not at all happy with my experience

i had a rocker that needed the back recaned and painted. i spoke to "be seated", was told the caning could not be repaired/repatched, it had to be completely redone on the back. i decided to have the seat recaned as well. New cane is pale yellow, the seat cane was 35 years old, and a golden colour. he told me that lachapelle could paint the rocker for me, that it should be brought to be painted before it was recaned. The rocker was brought to lachapelle antiques at the beginning of august. The caning was to be redone, i chose to paint the rocker a bone white. i was told it would take a week or so to paint it and then it would be brought to "be seated" for the recaning. it stayed at lachapelle antiques for a month or so before it was brought to be recaned. gilbert lachapelle told "be seated" to recane only the damaged back, not the seat, did not even provide my phone number for any sort of confirmation. the rocker was returned to lachapelle antiques the end of september. it sat there until yesterday when i called to see what was going on. it hadnt been touched. i asked if it could be done that day. because gilbert decided to change what i wanted, the cane on the chair, which was supposed to be done AFTER the chair was painted, but was not (because gilbert decided to change what we had talked about) is covered in paint. i spent 500 to restore the rocker, and while the caning is perfect ( even though gilbert said not to do the seat and stained the back golden to match the seat, which i did not ask for), the 225$ paint job is terrible, the caning is covered in paint and the whole rocker looks like i painted it myself. which was not the look i was originally going for (a professional finish is what i wanted) so, use lachapelle antiques at your own risk. gilbert told me not to get so worked up over nothing, because i was upset that gilbert had ruined my chair. i will never use them again and will not recommend them to anyone i know.
