Wonderful food. Friendly and knowledgable staff. Warm ambiance. Reasonable prices. A hub of the community.
We heard great things about the pad thai but it wasn't nearly worthy of its $15 price tab or the attitude given to us for politely questioning the taste (salty, bland). I'm not claiming to be a pad thai expert, but I've lived in Thailand and eaten plenty in my day- different taste by different chefs I get that... But instead of trying anything to satisfy a disappointed customer the owner/chef yelled loud enough from the kitchen to the waitress " they don't like it too bad they dont have to eat here" (waitress was nice by the way). On the way out some additional sarcastic sympathy was a nice touch - Karma indeed. I'm never one to leave reviews, in fact this is my first.
I drove up there for my birthday for the 3rd time in a row. Always been up for dinner. Went up March 10 for lunch. Most of the food was not properly seasoned or prepared. Bland and did not eat most of it. Unhappy with most of the food and won't go back. If Karma hires someone to cook for him for lunch he needs to get someone who can cook.
Very surprised at a negative review for Karma Cafe. we had a great experience, food was excellent, I had the chicken Satay and my wife had the beef (cant remember name of it but it started with an "f" it that helps) it was amazing, full of flavour. Had a nice selection of different beers and our veg.rolls were great. Wife doesn't like Cilantro so they made the roll without. Atmosphere was cozy and the service was perfect. Prices were more than fair and you can tell the food is fresh...hard to find restaurants who serve fresh food lately...Karma does. Really enjoyed our evening and we'll be back.
Because we are a family of travellers we have been exposed to many different cultures and the food that is associated with them. Thai food is a family favorite and we were looking forward to trying out a "new restaurant" based not only on the reviews noted on this site but having seen a television show which show cased this particular restaurant. I can honestly say that this was not what we had expected. The restaurant's ambiance was so-so, but I will say the server we had was very attentive to our needs, (but I should add that there were only two other people there for lunch), but the food was sub-par. The servings were in fact very small, the pad thai lacked any type of "zing" it was very bland in fact. There is only one menu, not a lunch/dinner difference and if we were to receive these serving portions for dinner I can say that we would be leaving the restaurant hungry. Very expensive for what we received, example- Butter chicken, did not contain enough chicken to be classified as a breast, in a tortilla shell, rice and salad, cost was $12.99, pad thai with chicken was $14.99, not a lot of noodles and again very little flavor. The whole experience was disappointing, would I recommend, no, would I go back, NEVER.
We ate here on a very short deadline. It was my second visit and my husband's first. The food is wonderful and the staff were able to accommodate our time concerns with no problems. The atmosphere is a little noisy but not to the shouting-at-the-top-of-your-lungs-to-be-heard point. The food, the food is WONDERFUL. The Nepalese choices are different and interesting without being too hot. Portions are adequate, neither too small nor too large. Presentation is excellent. Since the prices are modest the place appears to appeal to the university crowd. It might be worth visiting at times when the engineers aren't out for a night on the town. We will definitely be back to explore the rest of the menu.
Wow...really surprised how good the food was, especially the spring rolls, they might be the best I have eaten! The servers were a little unenthusiastic but the food was so good I really didn't care. Kind of surprised I don't hear more people talk about this place????
I have visited many times and always love the food. Certainly one of the best in town for food quality. The service is sometimes slow but always pleasant. Meals seem to be priced fairly since I always leave feeling like I have had a real treat. If you are not in a hurry and have pleasant company for the meal you won't mind waiting a while to get fresh Thai food made to order. All carefully prepared. All delicious. Medium range of available beverages.
The service here was excruciatingly slow from the moment we stepped in. It took ages to get someone to take our order, and then it was well over an hour before our food arrived. After we finished eating, we waited and waited for the server to notice our empty plates - he never did. Eventually we all walked up to the bar and asked for our bills. The food was well-prepared and tasty, but it is not worth suffering through the poor service. There are other restaurants in Peterborough that serve decent Thai food. I won't be back to Karma's.
I was very disappointed with Karma's Cafe. It's a bit difficult to choose a starting point but I'll try to get everything in. My friend was already there when I arrived and there was water on the table already for two and she had a pot of tea. We decided what we wanted and put our menus down. Then we waited....and waited. After at least 20 minutes of waiting we called our server over. She did not ask if I wanted anything to drink, she just took our order. The appetizers arrived shortly after. They were quite good. Nice and hot and lots of flavour. Before we had a chance to finish the appetizers our entrees arrived, seriously crowding the small table. The entrees were not impressive. They were very bland. The only thing that could be said in their favour was they were served hot. We completed our entrees and asked that our food be packaged up to take home. The "doggie bags" arrived and then the bill. We were not asked if we wanted any dessert or if we wanted coffee or tea. That was very surprising to both of us. I guess that's pretty much it except that the restaurant itself was freezing the whole time we were there.
I've walked by Karma's many times, but never actually gone in until last week. I expected the food to be good but honestly I didn't expect it to be as fantastic as it was! Everything was really fresh and the portions were perfect - my curry had nice big chunks of white meat and really fresh vegetables. Decour was nice too. Definitely will be back soon!
The place was empty at 6:00 on a Thursday night but more people started showing up shortly after we arrived. The tables and decor were very nice and everything was very neat and clean. Our server brought us menus and water to start and checked in on us a couple of times to take our order and make sure everything was okay (she even turned the music down when I asked her to). We each had an order of spring rolls with sweet chili sauce and they were pretty good. The presentation of the food was simple and it looked very nice. With two orders of spring rolls and two beverages, our total came to $18.
This wonderful little gem is a favorite venue of my oldest daughter and her choice for her birthday dinner. I was quite surprised at the lovey ambiance, varied selection on the menu, and reasonable prices. The food was exquisitely presented and tasted wonderful. Quite a change from my usual food choices, but overall a pleasant experience for something different. Service was excellent and food came in a timely manner. Don't know if it mattered, but I made reservations just a few hours beforehand and the table was waiting for us when we arrived, even though we were late. Will definitely return.
The first time my boyfriend and I went to Karma's, we came in towards the end of the typical dinner service of a Saturday night. We waited at the door for a few minutes, wait staff bustled by us, we ended up seating ourselves at a vacant table. Ten more minutes went by, wait staff served tables all around us, no acknowledgment from anyone! Our mouths dropped when one of the staff had enough time to actually SIT DOWN and talk with some customers that they knew...but not to give us a "Hello" and some menus!!! I marched up to the bar, demanded menus. Another ten minutes later, we were on the verge of leaving when a waitress came over to take our orders. Luckily the food was incredible. Second time, we made reservations. MAN, what a difference in service! We were treated like royalty :)
After watching Restaurant Makeover, my partner and I decided to visit Karma's Cafe. We have a place on Pigeon Lake so it is close for a night out. The resaurant is quaint and intimate and had a very relaxed atmosphere. Our server was friendly and prompt. We tried a variety of items from the menu...momos are to die for! Each member of our party was impressed with the incredible flavors and the quanity of food. We left with satisfied taste buds and full bellies!! We have recommended it to friends and they have enjoyed Karma's as much as we have! Keep up the great cooking Karma!
We visited Karmas just recently and found that it is still a wonderful dining experience. Described as Himalayan it is very unique to the local scene. We had recorded the restaurant makeover from some months ago but never watched it. After dining there we went home and watched the show. Turns out we ordered 3 of the 4 featured meals from the show. From what I know, it is highly unusual for the show not to make over the menu as well but in this case, they didn't touch it and I can see why. The attention to quality was fantastic. The food very tasty. And yes, it is still prepared by Karma himself. Highly recommend.
Seriously. I could not believe the service we recieved. A table of 6 should NEVER be ignored like that, especially with the tips that *could* have been recieved from serving us properly, let alone excellently. Food was amazing. Wish I didn't have to wait forever to get it.
We had made a reservation for 9:15 and had showed up a bit later than expected and saw that the restaurant looked close. The chef was outside and saw us walking past and obviously heard us talking and opened it back up just for us! We had the whole place to ourselves (which was great) and were served super quickly by the very nice chef. The food was delicious! Very rich and satisfying and it seemed pretty authentic. There were no complaints by anyone other than being too full to keep eating! I would go back in a second it was excellent.
Thank you so much for the great service and food over the years. We will always be true customers! My wife and I always take a friday night date to enjoy the food. Restaurants have bad days so take the comments on this website lightly. Get the butter chicken or just ask one of the friendly servers. Keep up the good work Melanie and Sarah! See you friday!
Service was HORRIBLE! Cannot believe this place is still in business. We were ignored by our waiter, and found a scrubby pad for doing dishes in our food. No apology for the garbage found in the food and after a 2 hour dinner of waiting and waiting and waiting we practically had to beg for the bill and waited even longer to pay. Even for a free meal I would never go back to this restaurant- what a disappointment.
