Walking into Wilensky’s feels like walking back in time. Picture a single room, hosting a single counter lined with nine old-fashioned stools. The walls are coated with history: books, newspaper articles, and customer and family photos. Originally a corner store, the Wilensky family made the jump into lunch through the purchase of a single grill in 1932 for sixty-eight dollars.
This fast-sandwich shop features the same sandwich that the owner’s grandfather Moe Wilensky, first created. Their trademarked “Special” sandwich consists of beef baloney and beef salami on a roll with mustard. A small adaptation to the rule allows cheese to be added, but they will never slip the secret of the buns. Don’t forget your side of pickles, and ask about their specialty homemade sodas and egg creams to quench your thirst! Sharon Wilensky, current owner, tries to avoid the typical “cookie cutter approach” within her business, so with the Wilensky family themselves waiting to greet you, there’s no “false front” here. This rare genuine character shines through each classic Wilensky’s meal.

One might call this restaurant "the last of the Mohicans." A real "mom and pop shop" like no other. Frozen in time, here, the specialty is the roasted baloney sandwich served on a napkin. Try it at least once in your life. If you're new in town, a visit to Wilensky's is part of the rite of passage in becoming a true Montrealer.

It’s an all-beef bologna and salami sandwich, served on a toasted roll, topped with a bit of mustard. It’s best enjoyed with a pickle. If you’re in the mood for a treat, try one of their egg cream sodas.
