Ice cream maker Billy Friley is highly acclaimed for his premium, small-batch ice cream flavours and use of local and organic ingredients. Two store locations — Victoria Park and Britannia Plaza — serve an ice cream roster that includes flavours such as salted caramel, Phil & Sebastian Coffee, cardamom and vanilla bean. Seasonal specials and non-dairy ice cream are also available.

A Calgary ice cream institution with two city locations, My Favourite Ice Cream Shoppe serves 72 flavours of the sweet ‘n’ chilly stuff, plus a handful of dairy- and sugar-free options. Its location at 85th Street and 8A Avenue Southwest features a huge bulk candy bar.

Lic's Ice Cream Shop

Lics for short, Leavitt’s Ice Cream Shop serves hard ice cream on house-made waffle cones or by the bowl. Its big, green chalkboard notes all its many available flavours. For ice cream eaters with dietary concerns, the shop serves milk-free sorbet as well as lactose- and sugar-free ice cream varieties.

Angel's Cappuccino & Ice Cream

On the north side of the water, this homey little shack sits across from Edworthy Park on the Bow River Pathway system. Customers can eat inside, on the café’s small patio or just keep on walking or riding, cone in hand. The place closes when the temperature falls below -10C.

An ice cream cone destination owned and operated by the Mackay family for more than 65 years, Mackay's Cochrane Ice Cream is located just northwest of Calgary in the picturesque town of Cochrane. Made in the family's own factory, the shop's bestselling flavours include chocolate fudge chunk, cookies and cream and maple walnut. Long lineups in summer move quickly.

Amato Gelato Cafe
