From the outside, Rufus' Guitar Shop looks more like a pawn shop than an instrument store, but once you step inside, you'll be greeted by walls and walls of beautiful new and used acoustic and electric guitars in all shapes and sizes. Nearly everything you could want for a guitar can be found here, including accessories (amps, strings, straps, picks), lessons and repairs. The teachers are musicians with real experience and are always happy to help newbies.
Gandharva Loka is unlike any other music store out there, and the surprisingly extensive musical instrument collection is just one reason to come here. The atmosphere at the Granville Island shop is laid back and the pleasant, and the well-travelled owners are always ready with a story about each instrument. They'll happily let you try out some of the more unique worldly items, even if you're not planning to buy them. Don't miss this cozy little music centre, where you can find everything from stringed instruments to drums, and even a musical chair.
If you're in the market for a real piano, this is the place to find one. The store's upscale atmosphere features specialty lighting and luxury decor that shines a spotlight on what really matters: the pianos. While the shop might feel high end, it’s anything but stuffy. Visitors are welcome to run their fingers across the ivory keys to try out the various different new and used piano models on display. Owner Pacey is attentive and very good at explaining things to his customers. He can help you select the right piano for your particular needs.
If you're a beginner violinist, Vintage Violins is a good place to find an affordable instrument. The store focuses on violins only and all of the instruments on sale are acoustic and appropriate for a student level. The tiny shop is packed with violins, and the staff is quite knowledgeable and willing to help. They also offer repairs and accessories, as well as some of the best prices on strings in the city.
The cute little exterior of this Granville Island shop belies the expansive interior filled with items from around the world, including musical instruments. While the shop isn't exclusively for music, it's worth checking out. The fun atmosphere and myriad of worldly collectibles will keep you browsing for far longer than anticipated. You can find eclectic instruments such as shakers, rain sticks, singing bowls and unusual flutes, among many other fascinating items.
While there are certainly pieces of native art and jewellery found at A-One, its focus is evident from the moment you walk in the door. The walls are lined with guitars from all walks of life. Everything in the store is pre-owned, and it's the ideal place to find brand-name instruments at an affordable price. There are also limited edition and vintage items available in store and online.
