Always recommend Mekong to all my friends who visit out of town. The best viet food, hands down. Spring rolls are amazing. Pork chops are grilled to perfection. Everything else is just delicious. A frequent customer and always will be!
I've been here plenty of times, so I finally decide to write a review for it. Great restaurant, wide menu variety, great service, just great in general I typically get pad thai because pad thai in general is good. The pad thai here, while good, isn't as good as other places. Don't get me wrong, I think it's good, they put vegetables in it, which is great, but I think they're a little too light on the sauce. But overall, good pad thai and i'll definitely be ordering it again. They also have another dish, which is just a porkchop over a bed of rice with carrots and green onions. Sounds simple, and is amazing. Plain, white rice, fish sauce, carrots and green onion is actually very good, and the fish sauce also goes well with the porkchop. Only way to make it better is to dump some roasted peanuts on it. Their other popular dishes, like pho and the vermicelli dishes are also great too, can't go wrong with those. The spring rolls here are great. However, I generally don't order their stir-fry dishes because I think they're the weakest on on the menu. The sauce is light and the plainness of the rice really overpowers. But overall, mekong is a great place to go if you're in the area and don't feel like eating at the japanese or fast food restaurants surrounding it.
The Mekong sprouted up in the location of a earlier failed chain restaurant years ago. The Vietnamese family who own and clearly operate the restaurant serve consistently well prepared, authentic dishes native to their homeland minus, no doubt, some of the non-Canadian exotics. Service is always great; prices are reasonable (but there are comparables around a little more modestly priced). A local treasure. But if you do not like spicy food and you see that adjective on the item desired the cook will gladly tone the fireyness down to your level, or, for the most daring, ask for lots of water.
I've been on the hunt for Kingston best PHO. The Pho is okay. I would eat it again. What really made this restaurant stand out ~ the Vietnamese Spring Rolls. Really really good. I thought the place looked dirty but I would go for the rolls again. I'd say it is their signature dish.
First time coming here in years (used to come here frequently around 5 years ago then stopped going out to eat) and i was NOT disappointed. I got their vietnamese pho with beef... it was SO good and very inexpensive compared to other vietnamese restaurants... i got a large soup and it was around $7-8 and it filled me up. My friends got some other dishes that looked amazing.... chicken with spring rolls, vermicelli noodles, some veggies and fish sauce... they all sounded and looked amazing. I definitely recommend this place!
