July 22 had an 86 th birthday dinner. I only now saw the bill I was having a problem with the card machine. Our server was the best I have ever been fortunate enough to meet. Her name was Christina. We loved her. Here is my big problem. I did not put the correct tip on the bill. I feel terrible. She deserved so much more. Please tell her I will write a poem for her but that doesn’t make up for my error. She is the best. ???

HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE

This was the worst nightmare I have ever experienced. Ordered bowtie pasta with shrimp and beef tenderloin. The waiter brought the order and after he left, I noticed the pasta was a combination of penne and bowtie and there was not a speck of shrimp. I asked a passing waitress about the order and showed her the lack of shrimp. She never came back. I spoke with the waiter and he came on to me with an attitude like I have ever seen, telling me that I had the 'SHRIMP FLAVOUR' and I ate everything. Of course, I gave up waiting and was hungry. I told him that I was the customer and to watch his tone. That got him even more upset. Either he was always like that with customers, or he had a bad day with his boyfriend. I wrote an e-mail to the owner, but there was no satisfaction and he ended the e-mails. I also spoke with another manager person and explained again what had occurred, but never did hear a reply. NO, I will not make a mistake twice in my life, nor will the 200 people that have told will make their first mistake. PS: the beef tenderloin was like a leather shoe.

Very impressive!

Popped into David's of Dover Coast for a quick after work drink with some local business contacts and was blown away with the place. What a view! The locals were a little more blasé about the view but I was knocked out. The four of us shared a generous and delicious cheese platter while we gabbed over several glasses of wine and some off-the-chart martini's and can say that the food, ambience, service and martini's were all excellent. We were there on a Friday night so the place was quiet when we arrived but full when we left an hour and a half later. The service was good throughout. We hadn't meant to stay that long but it all just worked and nobody wanted the session to end. Drink prices were reasonable for a place at that level and way cheaper than a similar night out Toronto would have been. One member of our group didn't like the Chardonnay option offered by the glass but seemed quite happy with the Kim Crawford sauvignon blanc she ordered instead. We'll definitely be heading back. Very impressive!

Surprised and delighted....

I live in Vancouver which has tons of great restaurants, but was recently visiting friends in Port Dover and was pleasantly surprised to be taken out to such a lovely place for lunch. The view out over Lake Erie was visual candy, our server was charming and efficient and although it was fairly busy when we were there, the kitchen still managed to accommodate our special requests without missing a beat. Coming from B.C., I considered choosing salmon a risk but David's salmon special was excellent. Compared to Vancouver, prices were very reasonable - would love a David's in my neighborhood!

Excellent

Definitely one of the best steaks I’ve ever had. I had a 12 oz Strip Loin at $29, my wife had The Chicken Supreme at $28. Mine came with baked potato and a medley of vegetables which our server told us were all locally grown. The Chicken Supreme my wife had was stuffed with Swiss cheese and Black Forest Ham and came with perfectly prepared rice and the same vegetable medley. Neither of us ordered appetizers but we did share a dessert (Eggnog Meringue Cake) which was amazing. The decor is very tasteful and both our meals were beautifully presented. Our server was friendly and attentive without being overbearing. We definitely felt as if we were in a high end place but even with a great bottle of J.Lohr ($47 - about average) the bill was under $117. Given the quality of the food, service and ambience we considered that to be very good value.

Fantastic!!!!

All I can say, is that things must have changed drastically at this restaurant, since the last review. I had lunch at David's in October/2010, and I'm still thinking about the food. I've travelled extensively, and eaten in some of the finest restaurants, and the lunch at David's is one of the best I've had in quite awhile. I called my wife while I was eating, to rave about the food. The atmosphere was comfortable and relaxing, and the view of the lake is spectacular. Although I live in Toronto, I will definitely go back to David's whenever the opportunity arises. My suggestion is to ignore the mediocre reviews, and try it yourself. You won't be disappointed.
