There’s a slew of trendy restaurants trying to take advantage of the up-and-coming vibe in Toronto’s Junction area, but North of Bombay is not one of them. Just the opposite: brothers Amar and Gurdeep Singh brought a little culture and caché to the Junction long before it was the cool place to be. North of Bombay began as Piccadily in 1989 when a name with a British-sounding flair seemed more palatable to the local clientele. “We were the first Indian food a lot of our customers had ever tried,” Amar recalls. “At first they tried milder, sweeter dishes like the butter chicken. All these years later, they have developed their palates to include much more spice and heat.”
As the Junction continues to gentrify, many older residents move to quieter, more removed areas, however, many of them return to North of Bombay as part of their family tradition. One family who had been weekly regulars, and now live in Milton, come back every Mother’s Day and for family celebrations. For them, North of Bombay defines the neighbourhood where their family grew up.

We have eaten at many Indian restaurants in Toronto and kept coming back to North of Bombay. Now whenever we want Indian we make no decision about where to go - we always choose North of Bombay for its fabulous food, service and price.
I've been to this restaurant many times, mainly because their butter chicken dish along with their naan has me absolutely mesmerized. I've been to many indian restaurants in toronto, and have my select 1 or 2 places that I go to, depending on which dish I'm in the mood for and North of Bombay in my opinion has the best butter chicken in the GTA. I have tried some of the other dishes and they are excellent as well (vegetable biryani, garlic naan to name a couple). Their food may seem a little pricey in comparison to some other indian restaurants, but the price difference is EASILY justified in the quality of food that you are getting. The restaurant itself is also up there when it comes to aesthetics and seating - this is not your typical indian restaurant (cheap, smelly, dirty)...its has a very elegant feel and to it, making it the perfect place for special occasions (valentines day, mothers day, birthdays, anniversaries etc). Spacious seating, along with decorations/paintings/artifacts reminiscent of ancient India in an opulent setting, along with great service by the waitressing staff combine for a wonderful evening with friends or family. If you're a fan of indian food, especially butter chicken, it doesn't get any better than North of Bombay. Highly reccommended.
Although the food here is good the service was terrible and when we attempted to advise the owner of our disappointment he refused to speak with us. It was a very disappointing experience. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone!
