This restaurant is a paradox to me. My immediate family enjoys this place and I have to agree my dine-in experiences have all been positive. Wait staff are prompt, efficient, polite, friendly. Food is cooked properly, enjoyable, satisfying. BUT... if I order takeaway or delivery, it's guarenteed they'll screw something up. EVERY TIME. Every year or two I break down and give them "another chance" since they are in the neighbourhood and thinking they might have their act together. And it never fails, they screw up my order. I'm talking simple stuff like remembering to put mushrooms in the panzerotti. It's apparent they just don't care about the takeout/delivery component. But don't be afraid to eat in if you want a nice Italian dinner. As odd as that sounds.
We had it delivered, and the food was 45 minutes late in getting to us, and when I called to ask what was going on, I was put through to a manager who proceeded to hang up on me after telling me to call him if it wasn't there in 5 minutes. It was already 45 minutes late; that doesn't help me much. To add insult to injury, the food was stone cold. I called again, and I was given to a lady this time, and she promised a call back. I hope it's more positive this time around. Normally, I love Koolini's and recommend it to everyone. I can't this time around.
What a wonderful place to eat. The service was excellent and the food was perfect and on time. A great experience I will be sure to have again.
The sign said the look and menu had changed. Why? They say if it ain't broke don't fix it. We have dined here many times, approximately every 2 months, and have never had a complaint. Unless they return to their original recipes we will not go back. They changed the sauce used for the seafood pasta to a tasteless bland concoction. The same sauce was used to top my veal. However to save on sauce and mozzarella cheese, they hid the second piece of veal underneath. Not that it mattered a great deal, with or without the bland sauce, it did not enhance the taste of the veal. The Veal was served with penne and meat sauce. In all fairness that part was very good. The salad was also very good but the soup was nothing special.
I'll start by saying I truly loved the look of this place. It is very well designed, right down to the bathroom sinks. The dining room is roomy, eclectic, and has a great vibe. Booths are big and comfortable, and the artwork and decor are pitch perfect. I've been here about half a dozen times with family members, friends, and sometimes just my husband and myself. I'll admit that the service can be spotty; we've had dynamite servers here and also a few very inattentive, seemingly untrained ones (even a pretty surly one) as well. But the food has always been really quite good. I don't have any complaints about the portion sizes or the value for the price. Every once in a while I order something I'm not so crazy about, but I like that they have so much variety that I can experiment, and by the time you have bread and salad and appetizers, you're pretty satisfied. Overall, people I've gone there with seem to really like the place, so hopefully management will improve the training of their service staff to ensure a consistently wonderful experience for every diner, every time. In the meantime, we'll continue to dine there.
