New River Beach is quite stunning (low or high tide) and features great amenities. Definitely recommended.
HOWEVER, the "Gull and Herring" onsite restaurant doesn't live up to its surroundings. They are cash ONLY, food is cafeteria fare (at best) and is high-priced. Maybe it's good as a last resort if you're stuck. There are plenty of BBQ pits and picnic tables around, so bring your own stuff.
