I've been here a total of 3 times, the first time I thought the food was pretty good, the service was good and the restaurant atmosphere was clean and inviting. The last time I went and I will never go back was a huge disappointment. I didn't like the food I ordered it was tasteless, and frankly tasted burnt. When I told the waiter he took the food away to the kitchen and the manager came back and argued with me and said the food wasn't burnt and there was nothing wrong with it. I told him I'm not going to argue with you about whether you think the food is good or not I don't like it and to me it tastes burnt. They didn't apologize didn't offer an alternative and billed me for it. I have worked in customer service roles for 10 years and was very disheartened by the way I was treated and the fact that I had to pay for food that was disgusting. I will NEVER go back. With so many options in the area, find another place to eat.
Left me wondering about the cleanliness of the kitchen
It was my first time at China Cottage on Ellesemere for lunch for a departing colleague. When the waiter brought out the bowls for soup, one of them still had food on it which he wiped away with his finger rather than bringing a new one. Next, the plates were brought out and two of them were not clean - they were replaced only after insisting. The carpet of this place looks old and dirty. Not a very good first impression. The place was quite full and it felt like the wait staff was trying to rush us out because they started taking away plates before all the food had been consumed and without anybody telling them to bring the bill. The food taste and temperature were satisfactory, but in the back of my mind, I was wondering what the kitchen must look like.Clearly a very popular place, but I won't be going back.
Service was terrible from the minute we walked in, with the waiter not greeting us or being kind instead letting us know only take-out is possible since it was 9pm already. Followed by them preparing the food and serving it for take-out but putting no forks, spoons or napkins in the bag so literally had to drive back since I was still close enough to do so. Not recommended.
